About The Position

This is a full-time, non-exempt position for a Clinic Non-Certified Medical Assistant. The role involves direct patient care, including preparing patients for providers, recording medical history and vital statistics, maintaining compliance with regulations, and assisting with procedures. The position also requires strong communication skills, adherence to organizational policies, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Course (must be successfully completed within one (1) year of hire, unless a time extension is granted, in which case a written education agreement should be implemented).
Must be Certified or Registered (must be successfully completed within one (1) year of hire, unless a time extension is granted, in which case a written education agreement should be implemented).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire).

Responsibilities

Shows patients to the examination room and prepares them for the provider.
Records patients’ past medical history, vaccine status, vital statistics, and medication reconciliation.
Maintains compliance within the department and clinic, as well as within state and federal regulations and policies.
Answers, greets, and directs phone calls, takes messages, and documents them in the patient’s record.
Cares for instruments, including cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing where applicable.
Participates in mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings.
Follows policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of emergency preparedness and participates in drills.
Respects the confidentiality of patient records and uses complete discretion in accordance with HIPAA.
Utilizes all department forms and documents in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) appropriately.
Identifies victims and the process for reporting abuse.
Collects, labels, and transports all specimens appropriately.
Demonstrates proper techniques when setting up for procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of emergency and routine equipment and procedures.
Collaborates with patient care planning and actively participates in patient education.
Assists providers with special tests and procedures.
Acts as a resource person to other staff members.
Maintains positive and supportive behavior towards team members and other departments.
Participates in process improvement teams or interdepartmental efforts.
Assesses every patient for safety, medication dosage appropriateness, and other needs.
Acts as a liaison between patients, families, providers, and staff.
Completes workload as assigned.
Administers medication and performs treatment in accordance with standards of care, including translating medications into pediatric doses and using proper equipment for patient size and age.
Floats to other clinical departments as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
