About The Position

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a Clinic Lab Technician to join their team. This role involves proficient procurement of blood samples using venous and capillary techniques from patients of all ages. The technician will utilize the Laboratory Information System for ordering and resulting lab tests, and educate patients on proper specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum). Responsibilities include reviewing provider orders for accuracy, processing specimens according to requirements, and preparing specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, ensuring timely STAT specimen transport. The technician will also perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology under supervision, and maintain accurate records for quality control, maintenance, and temperature monitoring. The role requires teamwork in a fast-paced environment, adhering to Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.
Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.

Responsibilities

Procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
Utilizes the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
Educates patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
Reviews orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
Processes specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serologiy areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
Works together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.
