Responsible for specimen collection and processing, performing and interpreting technical laboratory testing, reporting reliable test results and coordinating physician orders. Provides and/or collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of patient care. Collects patient samples for analysis, including venous, capillary, urine and stool specimens. Performs lab analysis to determine the chemical components. Performs daily quality control checks each day of testing prior to patient testing. Reviews lab results for erroneous results or critical values prior to entering information into the Electronic Health Record. Notifies physician of critical values and documents date, time and resolution. Maintains and documents preventative maintenance of equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Takes an inventory of laboratory supplies, reordering when necessary. Collects data, prepares reports, answers correspondence and compiles statistics as necessary.
