About The Position

Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. The role is in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, a 444-bed hospital and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center. Clinical expertise should enable the nurse to resolve complex patient, management, and physician problems without supervision. The nurse also supports unit education, precepting, supervision, and quality improvement.

Requirements

At least three years of professional experience.
Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN licensure.
CPR certification is required.
Education must be sufficient to meet the standards for the required license and/or certification; no minimum education level is specified.

Responsibilities

Correlate patient history and support systems within hospital or nursing home care.
Assess the needs of patients and families.
Develop and initiate plans of care involving patients and families; recommend interventions and evaluate the plans of care.
Deliver care appropriate to the age-specific needs of the population served and demonstrate competence in critical skills.
Lead process improvement initiatives within the unit or participate on facility teams.
Precept new employees or students, or attend a formal preceptor workshop and be willing to precept.
Review preceptee clinical performance with the unit leader or clinical instructor.
Provide four contact hours of educational activities, excluding basic patient education.
Contribute to the development and evaluation of the unit orientation program.
Supervise LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs, and sitters.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Complete required annual education assignments.
Work toward goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
