About The Position

Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. The role involves assessing patients and families, developing and evaluating plans of care, and applying clinical expertise to resolve complex patient, management, and physician problems without supervision. The nurse also supports unit improvement, education, precepting, and supervision of designated staff.

Requirements

At least three years of professional nursing experience.
Must have and maintain a Tennessee RN license.
Must have and maintain CPR certification.
Education must be sufficient to meet the standards for the required license and/or certification; no minimum education level is specified.

Responsibilities

Correlate patient history and support systems within hospital care or nursing home care.
Assess the needs of patients and families.
Develop and initiate plans of care involving patients and families.
Recommend interventions and evaluate plans of care.
Deliver care appropriate to the age-specific needs of the population served and demonstrate competence in critical skills.
Lead process-improvement initiatives within the unit or participate in facility teams.
Precept new employees or students, or attend a formal preceptor workshop and be willing to precept.
Review preceptee clinical performance with the unit leader or clinical instructor.
Provide four contact hours of educational activities, excluding basic patient education.
Contribute to the development and evaluation of the unit orientation program.
Supervise LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs, and sitters.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Complete required annual education assignments.
Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality-improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
