About The Position

The Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs that propel our city toward a sustainable, equitable, and carbon-neutral future. We prioritize those currently and historically harmed by racial, economic, and environmental injustice and serve as cross-departmental and community partners, innovators, and drivers of cutting-edge city policy. This role is for someone looking to support opportunities to increase racial, social, and environmental justice throughout Seattle's environmental work. The Climate Planning Advisor will join OSE’s Climate Justice team, focusing on advancing racial equity and climate/environmental justice, and working across public and private sectors. The position requires expertise in climate and environmental justice, project management, strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and political savvy to address climate change.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the Climate Action Planning Process, including updating the Climate Action Plan (CAP) by the first quarter of 2027.
  • Lead internal and external engagement, including leading and facilitating the City’s CAP workgroup, standing up a Director’s forum, and convening regional Climate Justice partners.
  • Serve as OSE’s Council Liaison for the first six to eight months, building relationships, strategically advocating and informing the staff and Council members about OSE’s work, impact, and mission, and gathering information regarding emerging issues.
