About The Position

The Climate Integration Adviser will be based at the Climate Integration and Water team (CIP) DFAT Canberra office and will provide and coordinate advice and guidance to DFAT to strengthen climate integration across Australia’s development portfolio. By joining the DFAT-funded Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) program, managed by DT Global, as a Climate Integration Adviser embedded within DFAT, you will be at the forefront of integrating climate resilience into strategic policy and program delivery. In this role, you will collaborate closely with DFAT teams, technical specialists, and regional partners to embed climate considerations across development investments and support evidence-based decision-making. You will help strengthen institutional capacity, guide the design of climate-responsive programs, and ensure alignment with global and national priorities. The position offers a unique opportunity apply your expertise in a dynamic government environment, and contribute to sustainable, climate-resilient outcomes across diverse contexts, while working within a collaborative, purpose-driven ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Australian citizenship
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a baseline or higher security clearance
  • Mid-career stage
  • Depth of expertise in climate change
  • Strong commitment to supporting others
  • Ability to translate climate knowledge into practical guidance
  • Ability to enable colleagues in generalist roles to confidently integrate climate resilience considerations into their everyday work
  • Experience working within or alongside government
  • Understanding of public sector processes
  • Ability to navigate complex environments effectively
  • Adaptability and ability to perform well in fast-paced, evolving settings
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and sound judgment
  • Motivated by impact and driven to embed climate resilience across programs through partnership, communication, and practical action
  • Based in Canberra, or willing to relocate
