About The Position

The Center for Climate, Health and Equity seeks highly motivated interns to join an energetic and fast-paced team. The work of this Center focuses on advancing the conversation of climate change where it intersects with health equity and justice. This is an unpaid internship located in Washington, D.C., with hybrid or remote options available. The internship is US-based, and candidates must be able to work in the US during the internship. Interns must adhere to APHA COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate Policy. The deadline for applications is November 6, 2026, at 5 pm EST.

Requirements

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.
Working toward a bachelor's, graduate, or postgraduate degree.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Research and analysis experience.
Strong interest in climate change, health equity, or environmental justice issues.
Must be able to work in the US during the internship.
Must adhere to APHA COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate Policy.

Nice To Haves

Opportunity to extend internship through Summer 2027 semester.
Applicants interested in an extension should indicate availability for an internship running approximately from early January to mid-August 2027 in their cover letter.

Responsibilities

Complete research on issues related to climate change, health equity, and justice.
Develop fact sheets, blog posts, and background reports.
Support outreach and communication to members and partners.
Contribute content to climate webpages.
Participate in relevant hearings, briefings, meetings, and webinars.
Interact with APHA leadership and members.
Participate in Speak for Health and other association-wide events.
Work on the Association’s Get Ready campaign, writing blog posts and working on group projects each semester.
