About The Position

The Tonga Australia Support Platform (TASP) is seeking a Climate Adaptation Health Strategy Coordinator. TASP supports the Australian Government's development objectives in Tonga through program management, technical advisory, grants management, and subcontracting. The Health Pillar of TASP provides support to the Tonga Health System Support Program, a 20-year commitment by the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to Tonga's health sector. The current phase, THSSP4, aims to establish an effective, resilient, and inclusive health system for the Government of Tonga that reduces the burden of disease, particularly Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). This role will be instrumental in coordinating the development and implementation of the Tonga Climate Adaptation Health Strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience in program management, public health, climate change adaptation, environmental health, disaster risk management, or related fields.
  • Experience working with government agencies, donor-funded programs, or development partners.
  • Experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder engagement and multi-sectoral coordination.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within Pacific Island countries.
  • Familiarity with WHO climate-resilient health systems frameworks.
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Ministry of Health focal point for the Tonga Climate Adaptation Health Strategy.
  • Coordinate the development of the Tonga Climate Adaptation Health Strategy and associated action plans.
  • Work closely with MOH, SPC and WHO to ensure the Strategy aligns with national climate change policies, the Tonga Strategic Development Framework, disaster risk management policies and health sector priorities.
  • Facilitate coordination and collaboration across relevant sectors, including health, environment, climate change, water, agriculture, disaster management and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and monitor implementation of activities to support the timely achievement of agreed program targets.
  • Track implementation progress, outcomes and risks, and support the development and application of mitigation measures where risks to completion of the Strategy are identified.
