About The Position

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Architect to lead end-to-end solution delivery for a major retail platform. The role combines architecture leadership, platform development, client solution delivery, partner integrations, and practical use of AI-assisted development tools. The architect owns the lifecycle from discovery and design through implementation and operational readiness, guiding both exploratory Discovery Track work and production-focused Delivery Track work while developing reusable platform capabilities. The role designs and implements scalable platform infrastructure and core capabilities, including APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and shared services. It leads client-facing architecture activities, translates business needs and discovery outcomes into validated designs and delivery backlogs, and maintains traceability through implementation and operations. The architect also owns integration architecture across partner ecosystems and governs design choices for performance, security, interoperability, scalability, and resilience. This is a hands-on technical leadership position. The architect builds production-quality code and prototypes, participates in code reviews, defines architecture standards and non-functional requirements, and mentors engineers and junior architects. The stated technology stack includes Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript, React or Vue, Docker, and Kubernetes, alongside cloud-native development.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Eight years of professional software development experience, including recent hands-on coding and prototyping in modern technology stacks.
Five or more years designing cloud-native, microservices, or event-driven architectures on Azure or equivalent cloud platforms.
Strong experience building platform infrastructure and scalable backend systems.
Proven ownership of end-to-end solution delivery, including design, implementation, and post-release operational accountability for medium-to-large projects.
Experience with partner integrations such as payments, SaaS APIs, loyalty, inventory, or authentication providers.
Hands-on experience building prototypes or reference implementations to validate architecture and solution feasibility.
Expertise in API-first design, including REST/OpenAPI.
Experience with relational and non-relational databases (SQL/NoSQL).
Solid understanding of containerization, CI/CD, and Kubernetes-based delivery pipelines.
Practical experience with generative AI and AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor.
Excellent stakeholder communication skills, including facilitating workshops, presenting technical solutions, and collaborating across business and engineering teams.
Proven leadership in mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and enforcing architecture governance.

Nice To Haves

Strong retail platform domain knowledge, including POS systems, store operations, or payment processing.
Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent.
Experience with API gateways or integration platforms such as Azure APIM, Kong, Apigee, MuleSoft, or Boomi.
Understanding of API security and compliance, including OAuth 2.0/OIDC, JWT, and PCI.
Familiarity with formal specifications such as OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, and JSON Schema for contract-driven development.
Background in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and infrastructure as code.
Experience leading Dual-Track Agile processes and translating discovery outcomes into actionable backlog items.
Experience contributing to platform strategy, reusable assets, and API-first designs.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end solution architecture across discovery, design, delivery, and operational readiness for platform and client solutions.
Design and build platform infrastructure and core capabilities, including APIs, microservices, data pipelines, shared services, and reusable patterns.
Produce and maintain architectural artifacts, including ADRs, interface contracts, data flow and sequencing diagrams, infrastructure specifications, migration and rollback plans, and traceability matrices.
Define and enforce architecture standards, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements.
Own client solution delivery by translating business needs into validated architectures and working implementations.
Facilitate client workshops, present technical solutions, drive stakeholder approvals, and serve as a subject-matter expert.
Lead Discovery Track prototyping, feasibility validation, and stakeholder alignment; translate outcomes into delivery backlogs and ensure a seamless transition to production delivery.
Build production code and reference implementations for platform components, infrastructure, and client solutions; participate in code reviews and complex feature delivery.
Establish and maintain partner integration architectures, including authentication, error handling, API contracts, data models, and versioning strategies.
Govern architecture consistency across partner integrations and internal product lines.
Ensure architecture quality gates and participate in design reviews and release sign-offs.
Identify and mitigate architecture risks involving compatibility, data integrity, scalability, partner dependencies, backward compatibility, and compliance constraints.
Mentor and upskill engineers and architects on design practices, AI-assisted development, Dual-Track workflows, and platform best practices.
Contribute reusable patterns, automation, cross-team alignment, and platform and portfolio strategy.
