About The Position

The Client Accounts Counsel manages Berry Law's financial relationship with veteran clients, exercising professional judgment on fee entitlement, dispute resolution, and file closure. This position protects the firm's reputation and financial sustainability while ensuring compliance with professional responsibility standards in all client communications.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar
  • Minimum 10 years of legal practice experience
  • Familiarity with Federal Administrative Law, particularly VA disability appeals processes and fee agreement regulations
  • Understanding of VA decision letters, rating determinations, and how case outcomes impact fee calculations
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to navigate difficult client conversations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, professional correspondence
  • High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution capabilities
  • Proficiency with modern legal case management systems

  • Experience at a collections law firm, legal finance department, or in fee recovery operations
  • Background in client relations, legal operations, or law firm administration

Responsibilities

  • Assess whether fee disputes arise from billing errors, misunderstandings about VA fee regulations, or legitimate disagreements about case outcomes and effective dates
  • Resolve fee disputes with clients who challenge contract terms or refuse payment, conducting thorough case reviews and engaging in direct attorney-to-client communication
  • Execute the firm's 45 and 95-Day Review process, including drafting and issuing formal communications regarding account requirements and conditions for continued representation.
  • Coordinate termination of representation when necessary, ensuring compliance with professional responsibility standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all client communications and decisions within the case and task management systems
  • Coordinate with the VA Payments Team to handle client escalations, correct billing errors, issue revised invoices, or process refunds when appropriate
  • Serve as the primary attorney contact for clients navigating extenuating financial circumstances, exercising judgment and discretion to resolve the firm's interests while preserving client relationships
  • Apply trauma-informed communication approaches when working with veterans experiencing service-connected disabilities that may affect financial decision-making
  • Address negative client reviews and feedback in coordination with the Head of Legal Operations and Chief Operating Officer
  • Communicate with empathy and professionalism to maintain Berry Law's reputation for veteran advocacy while protecting the firm's financial interests
  • Collaborate with senior Legal Strategists to ensure continuity when substantive legal questions intersect with financial matters
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives related to accounts receivable workflows and client financial communications
