Client Accounting Services Associate

Swink Coplen & Company, P.C.Sunset Hills, MO

About The Position

Swink Coplen & Company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CAS Associate to join our growing Client Accounting Services (CAS) department. This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional who wants to build a strong technical foundation in bookkeeping, monthly close, and cloud accounting technology. The CAS Associate is responsible for the accurate, timely execution of recurring bookkeeping and monthly close tasks for an assigned portfolio of clients, working under the guidance of a Senior CAS Accountant or Manager. This role is also the firm's primary training ground for the data hygiene and system discipline that our advisory services depend on, as client demand shifts toward faster, more advisory-oriented reporting.

Requirements

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent bookkeeping experience will be considered in place of a degree.
  • Comfortable learning new software quickly; prior exposure to QuickBooks Online or similar cloud accounting platforms is a plus but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions rather than guess.
  • Basic proficiency in Excel and comfort working across multiple cloud-based systems for different clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior bookkeeping, accounting coursework, or internship experience is a plus but not required.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with genuine curiosity about how businesses' finances work.
  • Eager to learn and grow technically, building fluency across multiple cloud accounting platforms.
  • Comfortable asking questions and escalating uncertainty rather than guessing.
  • Reliable and deadline-driven, able to manage a portfolio of recurring monthly responsibilities.
  • Motivated by long-term career growth, with an interest in eventually taking on more advisory-focused work.
  • A team player who works well within a collaborative, review-based workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Performs day-to-day bookkeeping for an assigned client portfolio, including transaction categorization, bank and credit card reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable processing.
  • Processes client payments and vendor bills and supports basic payroll processing coordination under supervision.
  • Uses document capture and workflow tools to organize source documents and maintain clean, audit-ready records.
  • Executes monthly close checklists under supervision, producing a first-draft close (trial balance, basic financial statements) for review by a Senior CAS Accountant or Manager.
  • Works fluently within QuickBooks Online (QBO) and related cloud accounting and AP tools for assigned clients, including chart-of-accounts hygiene and basic report generation, with growing independence over time.
  • Participates in scheduled training and technical check-ins, including training on new tools as the firm's CAS technology stack evolves.
  • Owns the accuracy and completeness of assigned clients' books prior to review, including timely reconciliations and clean supporting documentation.
  • Flags unusual transactions, missing documentation, or discrepancies to the reviewing Senior CAS Accountant or Manager rather than making assumptions to close the books.
  • Meets the firm's monthly close calendar for assigned clients, proactively escalating any capacity or timeline concerns.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and data security standards consistent with firm policy across all systems and client data.

Benefits

  • Competitive starting salary
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Health reimbursement arrangement for deductible expenses
  • Generous PTO
  • Profit sharing and 401(k) matching
  • Time allotted for charitable and civic involvement
  • Firm-sponsored activities and events
  • Flexible work-life integration
