About The Position

This Clerk position is a Guaranteed Rotating Extra Board (GREB) role, requiring on-call availability to cover shifts when permanently assigned employees are absent. When needed this position covers clerk duties in Helena, MT. This position is On Call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Guaranteed six 12-hour days per pay period. Shifts are governed by union agreement and subject to seniority. Travel is minimal. Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job training. Key responsibilities may include any of the following assignments on a shift: This Guaranteed Rotating Extra Board position can work in both Helena, MT. Transport train crews safely in a BNSF crew van. This role involves driving in and around rail yards, city and highway traffic, and navigating challenging weather, rough terrain, and remote areas. Perform various clerical and administrative tasks including station and yard office functions, updating train inventory, and directing train traffic. Responsibilities also involve accurately inputting data, typing letters and reports, filing, sorting and using a computer to prepare reports and handling various forms of correspondence. Stock Clerk duties include ordering, tracking, and managing materials while maintaining accurate inventories. Responsibilities include receiving, shipping, disbursing, delivering, locating, and storing materials. Customer service support which can include corresponding with customers, addressing waybilling errors, track and trace railroad cars, and providing rail car movement updates. Support operational needs to provide waybilling electronically of company material railroad cars when appropriate. Assist with exception-based waybilling of railroad cars for customers and various departments as needed. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisors. Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery. Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed above.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with H endorsement or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
  • Available to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
  • Able to work the above shift/hours.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light).
  • Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment.
  • Ability to learn to identify, interpret and use hand signals from near and far and visually judge the speed and distance of moving objects.
  • Ability to use hands and hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.
  • Ability to bend, walk, stand, and sit for several hours with breaks.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
  • Basic level skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs (i.e., Excel, Outlook, Word) with prior experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs in either a professional or academic setting.
  • Union membership is with the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and union dues are required per union agreement.
