Responsible for daily report distribution, mail room responsibilities, maintenance and oversight of department office equipment, as assigned, and depending upon departmental need. Roles & Responsibilities: Receives and accessions laboratory specimens into the Laboratory Information System. Prepares specimens for testing on site, or to be sent to sister hospitals, reference labs, outside institutions. Specimen handling knowledge required. Specimen accessioning knowledge required. Accessions specimens for anatomical pathology as per established policies. Files and retrieves slides, blocks, reports for anatomical pathology. Preparing the histology gross room for frozen section. Knowledge of laboratory tests and specimen collection. Prior experience preferred in specimen handling and accessioning. Handles various types of patient specimens: surgical specimens, biopsies, blood, fluid, urine, stool, etc. Answers the telephone, files, prints, faxes report and communicate results to physicians and other authorized medical personnel, observes HIPAA regulation. Meet deadlines, multi-tasking, data entry into the laboratory information system, attention to detail. Professionalism, organization, dependability. Computer proficiency required. Effectively interact with nursing and medical staff. May have to perform CPA as needed. Other duties as assigned.
