About The Position

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is seeking a mission-driven, dedicated individual to fill the role of Clerk V. The selected candidate will perform clerical support activities primarily for the Area Director and the Area Management Team.

Requirements

  • At least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work.
  • At least one year must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability on all office equipment including; PC, photocopier, scanner, fax.
  • Ability to effectively handle complaints presented or referred to the Director.
  • Aptitude to work with culturally diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor in the public forum
  • Knowledge to utilize Word, Excel, Access, FamilyNet System and i-FamilyNet.
  • Experience to plan, organize and carry through on office events.
  • Ability to carry out work activities with a minimum of direction.
  • Ability to establish systems to improve overall performance of all clerical functions.
  • Aptitude to organize and improve filing system.

Nice To Haves

  • A diploma as evidence of graduation from the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • A diploma as evidence of graduation from a course other than the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school or possession of a Massachusetts high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for a maximum of eight months of the required experience.
  • A diploma for completion of a one year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum or one year of the required experience.
  • A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assignments of a confidential nature.
  • Receive and screen telephone calls for the Area Director.
  • Answer and/or refer inquiries to appropriate parties for action.
  • Supervision and back-up for assigned support staff
  • Enter data on Family Net.
  • Compose and/or prepare correspondence, reports, and/or memoranda as requested.
  • Coordinate records production for external requests including records production, redacting and printing.
  • Maintain files and records such as correspondence, confidential records, etc.
