About The Position

This position involves performing clinical care and assessment of patients across various age groups, obtaining blood specimens through venipuncture and skin punctures, and performing various screening tests. The role also includes associated record-keeping, maintaining departmental policies and procedures, and assisting with clerical functions and equipment maintenance. Additionally, the position requires acquiring electrocardiograms and upholding patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Previous phlebotomy experience in the healthcare field preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certificate (required for employees hired during or after 2010).
  • Pleasant phone manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • Ability to accurately relate technical information.
  • Experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency, individually and part of a multidisciplinary team, in performing clinical care and assessment of all patient populations.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing clinical care and assessment of patients of all ages: check which ages apply (newborns, infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics).
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and skin punctures on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Performs various screening tests and record keeping associated with phlebotomy and reports results.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures and follows hospital safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Performs clerical functions associated with the testing area.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Acquires electrocardiograms.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Preserves and protects patient rights to confidentiality at all times.
