About The Position

The City of Hanford is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy in the Recreation and Community Services Department. This position provides clerical support to the City of Hanford Administration department and divisions, and may also fill-in as needed for other City departments. This position works a maximum of 1000 hours in a fiscal year and affords no benefits. A typing certificate verifying 35 wpm, dated within six (6) months of application submittal must be uploaded with an online application (online typing certificates are NOT accepted).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.
  • One year of progressively responsible clerical experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six (6) months of typing and general clerical experience.
  • Typing 35 words per minute on a computer terminal keyboard.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and applicable software.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license may be required, depending on assignment.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of inventory maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of spelling and grammar principles.
  • Knowledge of basic filing and recordkeeping principles.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical concepts.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Skills in filing and typing.
  • Skills in providing customer service.
  • Skills in prioritizing work.
  • Skills in performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skills in entering information into a database.
  • Skills in maintaining various records and files.
  • Skills in communications and interpersonal interactions sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to requests for information from the general public, or other internal departments, and employees.
  • Answering routine questions and directing visitors to appropriate locations.
  • Screening incoming calls, taking and transmitting messages.
  • Distributing mail, making photocopies, typing, document scanning, and filing.
  • Typing, entering data, or word processing routine documents and information.
  • Compiling data for routine reports.
  • Receiving, sorting, and distributing correspondence, records, and information.
  • Processing a variety of forms and paperwork using established procedures.
  • Filing documents alphabetically, numerically, or by other prescribed method.
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level as required.
