About The Position

The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for providing a cleaning service within a building or building complex to agreed standards. This role involves planning, organizing, and controlling the work of cleaning staff, carrying out induction and skills training, liaising with building managers, investigating complaints, and ensuring adequate supplies of materials and equipment are maintained. The supervisor will also monitor the suitability and performance of materials and equipment, recommend changes to improve efficiency, and ensure cleaning standards meet EA standards. Key duties include allocating keys, planning periodic work, and maintaining records of staff attendance and consumable stocks.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable two years’ experience of cleaning outside the home environment.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of a Cleaning Supervisor.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work NI Order 1978.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods/machinery.
  • Ability to use own initiative and to work under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and take instruction in the English language.
  • Effective organisation and planning skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Flexible approach to work, and able to give instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and control the work of cleaning staff to ensure that EA standards are met, including undertaking cleaning duties personally.
  • Carry out induction and skills training, including refresher training, in line with EA practice.
  • Liaise with the building manager or other authorised person on day-to-day issues related to cleaning.
  • Investigate complaints in respect of the cleaning provision, take corrective action and advise the designated line manager where appropriate.
  • Ensure that adequate supplies of materials and light equipment are requisitioned and maintained at appropriate levels within the budget, and that equipment is kept in good condition, used and stored correctly.
  • Monitor suitability and performance of materials and light equipment and advise the designated line manager where these are inappropriate for the task.
  • Recommend and implement changes in work procedures in consultation with the designated line manager to improve economy, standards or ease of operation.
  • Ensure that the cleaning standards within the premises meet EA standards.
  • Allocate keys to cleaning staff and ensure their return at the end of each day.
  • Plan periodic work in consultation with service users and report plans to the Area Co-ordinator in advance of school closures.
  • Ensure that all records in respect of staff attendance, holidays, and absence are completed, authorised, and returned to EA in good time.
  • Maintain records of consumable stocks and inventory of equipment.
  • Carry out duties to comply with Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations, other legal requirements, COSHH Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
  • Cover colleagues on sick leave in line with EA procedure.
  • Report absence in line with the EA’s Procedure and complete relevant forms signed by the Building Supervisor.
  • Wear protective clothing or work wear issued when carrying out cleaning duties.
  • Wear flat-soled enclosed-toe footwear when carrying out cleaning duties.
  • Use and care for cleaning equipment in an appropriate and safe manner, reporting any defects immediately.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Carry out duties for jobs up to and including those in the same grade, provided such duties are within the competence of the employee.
  • Accept any training for jobs graded at a higher level than their own, with payment only made where required by the authority for higher-level duties.
  • Accept any training to facilitate the undertaking of duties up to and including their own grade, including Induction Training and Refresher Training.
