About The Position

Environment New Jersey is hiring a Clean Water Associate to build public support for their clean water campaigns in New Jersey. The organization is working to protect and restore the state’s rivers, lakes, and streams from major sources of pollution and to protect drinking water. This includes campaigns to reduce toxic PFAS pollution, replace lead service lines, and protect watersheds from the regional impacts of fracking.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel regularly.
  • Motivated to work when needed, which may sometimes be in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Passion for the environment and using the power of grassroots organizing to win campaigns.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Top-notch writing and public speaking skills.
  • An eagerness to learn.
  • Organizing experience, including building campus or community groups.

  • Flexibility to move to a different office location for the summer campaign office.

  • Training on advocacy and organizing skills is provided.
  • Oversight by an experienced advocate is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct online and in-person outreach to educate the public on issues and ways to get involved.
  • Reach out to a broad range of organizations and affected constituency groups across the political spectrum to demonstrate support for campaign goals.
  • Organize news conferences and write opinion pieces.
  • Build a following on social media for the campaign.
  • Organize webinars, community events, and public meetings.
  • Recruit organizations and members of the public to attend and participate.
  • Meet with decision makers to advocate for campaign goals.
  • Catalog and analyze data relevant to the issue and policy proposals.
  • Help build the team by recruiting volunteers, interns, and full-time staff.
  • Run a campaign office each summer, including knocking on doors to raise money, build the organization and membership, and build grassroots support.
  • Meet fundraising goals and manage a team of paid staff during summer campaign office operations.
  • Participate in organizational projects and trainings, potentially assisting other teams on priority campaigns and tactics.
  • Travel and participate in regional and national trainings and other in-person or virtual projects as needed.
