About The Position

North Idaho College Head Start is seeking a dedicated Classroom Teacher in Coeur d'Alene to help create a strong foundation for lifelong learning and family success. In alignment with the Head Start mission and federal performance standards, this position is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum, fostering meaningful family engagement, and creating a nurturing environment where children can thrive. The successful candidate will plan and implement engaging learning experiences that support children's intellectual, physical, and social-emotional development; maintain a healthy and welcoming classroom; complete screenings, assessments, documentation, and child portfolios; conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences; collaborate with families and support service providers; and contribute to center operations, recruitment efforts, professional development, and program initiatives. We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate demonstrates a positive approach to early childhood education and family services, proficiency with technology and data management systems, sound professional judgment, a commitment to confidentiality and ethics, and the ability to represent Head Start with professionalism and compassion. Flexibility, organization, teamwork, and a passion for supporting young children and families are essential.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development, OR Associates degree in any other field of study AND: the equivalent of a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (Level I)
  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development, OR Bachelors degree in any other field of study AND: the equivalent of a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (Level II)
  • One year experience (256 hours minimum) as a staff or volunteer in a preschool classroom with at least 10 children
  • Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system
  • Meet all training and certification requirements for child care licensing and Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Maintain current Infant/child & Adult CPR and First Aid
  • Meet terms of Statement of Agreement/ Employment Declaration
  • Pass an enhanced criminal background check including fingerprinting, as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards and Child Care Licensing requirements, prior to first day of work
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of computers and commonly used software for Internet and e-mail access, word processing and data collection and management
  • Positive approach to Early Childhood Development programs, health and social services
  • Demonstrate professional ethics and confidentiality
  • Represent the Head Start program in the community and with other professionals, positively and with professionalism
