About The Position

The Classroom Teacher will plan and implement learning experiences to facilitate student learning in subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development. This role involves developing rapport with parents, community, and school personnel, and making provisions for being available for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when necessary. The teacher will cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods, and assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct. Key responsibilities include developing classroom behavior rules, upholding the student conduct code, implementing effective pupil management, and maintaining confidentiality of student and personnel information. The teacher will strive to implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives, guiding the learning process towards curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects. Evaluation of student progress, identification of student disabilities, and planning for individual student needs are crucial. Creating a conducive classroom environment, maintaining a thorough understanding of subject material, and employing various instructional techniques are also essential. Open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress is expected. The teacher will also assist in selecting instructional materials, support school activities, attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and maintain accurate records. Professional growth through ongoing learning is required, as is taking precautions to protect students and property. Preparation for classes and meeting deadlines are also part of the role. The teacher will develop and provide instruction based on the course of study, dress professionally, and assist with preparing and implementing Section 504 and IEP plans under the guidance of specialists. Maintaining a professional demeanor and providing appropriate supervision are also key duties.

Requirements

  • Valid state of Ohio teaching certificate for the assigned grade levels/subject areas.
  • Such alternatives to the above as approved by the Board of Education.
  • The criminal background check does not reveal any criminal violations that would preclude employment in a public school setting.
  • Compliance with all drug-free workplace requirements.
  • Compliance with all Board policies.
  • Compliance with Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
  • Physical ability to supervise students of various ages and activity levels.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manages time effectively.
  • Ability to effectively manage individual, group, and organizational interactions.
  • Effectively uses listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills.
  • Uses diplomacy and exercises self-control when dealing with other individuals.
  • Maintenance of regular and predictable attendance and consistent punctuality.

Nice To Haves

  • The primary responsibility for preparing the IEP/504 plan shall rest with the Intervention Specialist and/or the 504 District Representative.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designed.

  • Is alert to disabilities of students and seeks assistance of district specialists in meeting the needs of all students with disabilities.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of subject material.
  • Creates effective student learning experiences.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Supports school activities through participation and/or attendance.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees, subject to the Negotiated Agreement.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparations.
  • Meets deadlines as established by the administration.
  • Other reasonable duties and responsibilities assigned by the building principal.
  • Develops lesson plans that reflect course of study.
  • Provides instruction to students that reflects course of study.
  • Dresses professionally and appropriately.
  • Assists the Intervention Specialist and/or 504 District Representative to prepare and implement Section 504, Individualized Education Plans (IEP), and/or other interventions for assigned students meeting eligibility requirements.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor with students and parents.
  • Provides appropriate supervision for all students.
