The teacher will have a prepared lesson plan sufficient for instructing the lesson, exercise proper care of materials and equipment, and communicate classroom needs to the proper personnel. The teacher will arrive for work at the assigned hour and not leave before the assigned time. They will communicate appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and administration. The teacher will accept assistance, advice, and guidance from supervisors and make a concerted effort toward improving skills. They will share ideas, plans, materials, and facilities. The teacher will be alert to the district’s, school’s, and their own goals and priorities and seek professional development appropriate to these needs. They will keep confidential information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law. The teacher, in their association with others, will respect the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicate directly with the person(s) involved in any situation. While exercising contractual responsibilities, the teacher will comply with state and local restrictions pertaining to controlled substances, tobacco products, alcohol, and dress. The teacher will not verbally or physically harass students, use profanity in the presence of students, or have any sexual contact with students. The teacher will employ classroom management techniques that result in an atmosphere for teaching/learning in which students can know what they are expected to do. The teacher begins the class promptly and communicates to students those behaviors expected of them, or there is evidence that expected behaviors have been communicated. Students exhibit classroom behaviors that allow for maximum on-task behavior from all participants in the lesson. Inappropriate behaviors receive immediate and appropriate teacher intervention. The teacher chooses appropriate materials and/or equipment for teaching a lesson and handles them efficiently. The teacher plans effectively with respect to establishing teaching strategies that allow students to attain the lesson’s behavioral objective. The teacher utilizes a clinical approach to teaching, with adequate diagnosis and prescription of evidence by students’ learning. The teacher uses the Diagnostic Lesson Plan Format, Instructional Lesson Plan Format, or Review Lesson Plan Format, as appropriate. The behavioral objective for the lesson is appropriate for the learners. The teacher recognizes student differences in needs, abilities, and interests and imparts instruction so that these differences are met. The teacher tells the student exactly what is to be learned in the lesson, the purpose of the learning, and makes it meaningful to their lives. They relate the learning from the lesson being taught to previous learnings and verbalize transfer for the students. Students are told how they will be accountable for demonstrating proficiency in the learning. The teacher gives students information about the learning and demonstrates sound, up-to-date knowledge of the subject matter being taught. They check periodically throughout the lesson for students’ understanding of the objective, provide practice experiences of the appropriate number and variety to ensure mastery of the objective, and carefully monitor guided practice for experience to ensure immediate feedback on correctness. The teacher demonstrates knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson. Each aspect of the lesson provides evidence of the teacher’s attention to maintaining a classroom climate conducive to learning (Feeling Tone). The activities of the lesson demonstrate the teacher’s desire to include student interests. The teacher encourages, praises, and/or acknowledges student effort appropriately. They manage instruction in such a way that each student shows some measure of success. There is evidence that practice is scheduled to guarantee retention of learnings. The teacher gives students the opportunity to verbalize the critical attribute(s) of the learning before leaving the lesson. The teacher collects data from the lesson that enables evaluation of each student’s performance and assists in planning the next day’s lesson.
