About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and implementing learning environments and experiences for children, adhering to various educational frameworks and plans. The role involves detailed documentation, communication with parents, and ensuring health and safety standards are met. The teacher will utilize positive guidance strategies and active supervision to foster child development and positive behaviors. Collaboration with other staff and participation in meetings and trainings are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or related field with 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education, OR a state-issued Teaching License to act as a pre-kindergarten or early childhood teacher if the Bachelor's degree is not related.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills including data entry and internet usage.
  • Have reliable transportation; hold a valid driver's license with adequate car insurance.
  • Work flexible and/or irregular hours with some travel.
  • Criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Physical exam and TB screening test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment.
  • Complete SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training.
  • Proof of certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days.
  • Register in the State Childcare registry.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred teaching experience with children ages 0-5.
  • Preferred Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, complete, and track required home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Schedule and complete child developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Ensure collection and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentation.
  • Complete assessment finalization checkpoints for all children within the specified timeframe.
  • Use assessment results to create/update individualized plans in conjunction with parents to address each child’s needs and track progress.
  • Plan and implement indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences using the Creative Curriculum System, UMOS School Readiness Plan, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework.
  • Implement daily activity plans, field trips, and transition activities, and submit completed documents to the Child Development Coordinator.
  • Implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children with disabilities, integrating Individual Goals into plans and lesson planning.
  • Maintain required documentation on children and classroom activities, including child roster/absentee list, meal count, classroom child file, case notes, developmental screenings, and assessments.
  • Maintain written and verbal communication with families regarding developmental progress using the PFCE Framework.
  • Implement and document the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in accordance with regulations, including participating in family-style meals.
  • Implement required health and safety policies and procedures, including storage of materials, health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering, injury/accident prevention, and sanitizing.
  • Participate in the ongoing weekly generation and collection of non-federal shares (In-kind).
  • Use positive guidance strategies to help children learn, monitor, and promote positive behaviors.
  • Demonstrate active supervision by maintaining direct sight and sound supervision of all children.
  • Communicate, assist, and work with other staff in coordinating arrival/departure of children, setting up/cleaning environments, and working with bus staff for clear communication between center and parents.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and center activities as assigned.
  • Assist in training and/or supporting other teaching staff as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
