About The Position

Provide direct support for participants taking recreational classes through Adult Life Skills Center. Participants in the program are 18 and older, and may have a variety of developmental, emotional, and behavioral problems, including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Duties may include managing participants before and after classes, providing direct support in small groups or individually as needed with adult participants helping prepare and clean classrooms. This position will work in collaboration with members of the staff including Operations Lead, Program Manager, Instructors, and other Classroom Assistants. 50% of FTE will be allocated for leading instruction of Life Skills and recreational classes and activities. Duties include collaborating to create classroom curriculum, preparing lesson plans, providing thoughtful instruction directly to students in classroom and community-based setting, provide directives to classroom assistants, monitor participants progress. Work closely with Manager and Curriculum Coordinator to implement feedback to adhere to mission and core values of programming. Implement behavior strategies as put forth by behavior team and monitor efficacy of plans and data collection as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree. High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with adults with developmental disabilities in a community-based setting.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with multi-system involved adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or other developmental disabilities in a community or inpatient setting.
  • A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education; child development, gerontology, nursing or other related field OR DDCS-contracted Life Skills Coach in Washington State.
  • Certified Life Coach
