About The Position

The Classroom Assistant Floater supports the teacher in creating and maintaining a positive, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. This position involves assisting with classroom instruction, preparing learning materials, supervising students to ensure safety and appropriate behavior, and providing individualized support as needed. The Classroom Assistant Floater works under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration to meet the classroom needs of Rock Hill Schools.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic child development and classroom management principles.
  • Understanding of instructional support practices and student supervision techniques.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with classroom and school staff.
  • Ability to assist in implementing lesson plans and reinforcing learning activities.
  • Skill in maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage time, organize materials, and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Basic computer and educational technology skills to support classroom activities.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergencies or challenging situations.
  • High school diploma
  • At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or an associate's degree (or higher); or an approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation

Responsibilities

  • Assists assigned students with lesson assignments and/or activities for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Assist students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring students’ success.
  • Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving the assigned students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Meets expectations set for all personnel (e.g. school schedule, dress code, performance) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within District guidelines and policies.
  • Monitors assigned students according to predefined schedule in classroom, field trips, and related arts for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assist with record keeping and clerical functions relating to the assigned students (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the assigned classroom teacher.
