About The Position

The Classroom Aide Float assists with managing children and the classroom environment. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the aide helps organize and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities, reinforces educational goals, attends to individual children’s needs, and follows busing and breakfast/lunch program procedures. The role is based at the Lockport site in Lockport, New York, and may require travel between BHSC locations as assigned. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience working with children or in a classroom setting, and/or working with children or adults with developmental delays or disabilities.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPI certification.
• Good judgment.
• Drive and energy.
• Sensitivity.
• Ability to work well with children and understand their needs.
• Ability to work well with others, including staff and families.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom team in producing and implementing age-appropriate lessons and activities.
• Work as a team member in classroom design and implementation.
• Maintain a healthy, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Follow site-specific bus-duty policies and procedures to safely escort children to and from classrooms.
• Follow site-specific procedures for distributing breakfast and lunch in accordance with NYSED, Health Department, and OCFS guidelines.
• Follow BHSC staff guidelines and codes of conduct, including mandatory meetings, training, and procedures in the employee handbook.
• Follow policies and procedures related to behavior management (CPI).
• Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
• Travel to and between BHSC locations as assigned.
