About The Position

The Classroom Aide is a key partner in the classroom and school community, providing academic, social-emotional, and operational support to ensure a safe, warm, and productive learning environment. This role requires a professional who is self-directed and able to anticipate classroom needs without disrupting the flow of instruction. This position bridges the gap between the classroom and communal spaces, upholding district behavior expectations during transitions, lunch, and recess. Paraprofessionals perform other tasks as assigned, including but not limited to lunchroom and playground supervision, crossing-guard duties, hall monitoring, light housekeeping, and providing academic support in small groups.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and meet state requirements for school personnel
  • Approach student behavior and academic needs with student growth in mind, showing empathy and a commitment to a welcoming, caring school community.
  • Build mutually respectful and supportive relationships with teachers, other support staff, and the administrative team to coordinate consistent student support, modeling relationship problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Thoughtfully maintain student privacy and confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in an education, coaching, or childcare setting is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Support student emotional health by providing a stable, nurturing presence and assisting students with self-regulation.
  • Provide thoughtful, low-stakes discipline and consequences for lunch and recess behaviors that are strictly aligned with the LPS behavior response plan.
  • Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of lesson plans and the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, transitions, and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment regardless of weather conditions.
  • Maintain a high level of visibility and support throughout the school building and grounds, acting as a role model for positive interactions and cell phone rules.
  • Support beginning and end-of-day operations, including crossing guard duties, car line, bus line, and door greeting.
  • Facilitate low-stakes restorative conversations in response to recess or lunch conflicts to repair relationships and build community.
  • Provide small-group academic instruction and interventions in alignment with core academic programs and the Science of Reading.
