Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, and computer proficiency required
  • US Citizenship or Lawful US Permanent Resident required.
  • Three (3) years related experience in classification in a correction or detention setting
  • Must successfully complete preservice training.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

  • Prior supervisory experience highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and supervise the administrative and activities of the department.
  • Develop and implement facility policy and procedures pertaining to detainee classification issues.
  • Conduct training on detainee classification topics.
  • Maintain quality control for all documentation and official correspondence prepared by classification staff that requires the signature and approval of the facility administrator.
  • Monitor the detainee classification process at the facility, ensuring that applicable policy and procedures are followed.
  • Assigns and audits housing assignments at the facility level.
  • Advise and assist the administration with detainee population management concerns. Ensure appropriate security level detainees are assigned to the facility. Initiate and coordinate detainee transfer requests as appropriate, if assigned detainees do not meet security level criteria. Coordinates with security shift supervisors’ additional security staff to conduct transfers when volume exceeds the norm.
  • Inform facility administration of local and national detainee population concerns.
  • Assist the assistant facility administrator in the preparation of the departmental budget, monitor and control expenditures.
  • Requires long periods of sitting and may require walking throughout the facility.
  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
