The general purpose of this position is to weld simple to complex components and/or structures while meeting all safety, quality and schedule requirements. The role involves working in compliance with all safety, quality, environmental and health requirements, welding a variety of configurations including single-pass and multi-pass fillets in all positions, for all joint and material thickness configurations, and multi-pass full penetration joint details. The welder may instruct and mentor less-skilled welders, works with a sense of urgency and efficiency, and maintains safe work practices. They ensure correct construction procedures are adhered to in compliance with Austal USA standards and project specifications. The position requires flexibility to work shifts or overtime as needed, maintain housekeeping, keep the worksite clean, and materials and equipment stowed in an orderly manner. The welder is expected to minimize waste of consumables and material and is accountable for the completion of daily work assignments, including work completion and quality sign-offs. They will also assist Welders, Fitters, Apprentices, and Trades Assistants with daily tasks as directed, and may be assigned tasks outside their craft. The welder monitors the working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations and reports deficiencies to their supervisor.
