The general purpose of this position is to weld simple to complex components and/or structures while meeting all safety, quality and schedule requirements. This role involves welding a variety of configurations, including single-pass and multi-pass fillets in all positions, for all joint and material thickness configurations, as well as multi-pass full penetration joint details. The position may also involve instructing and mentoring less-skilled welders. The welder is expected to work with a sense of urgency, efficiency, and productive output, maintaining safe work practices and adhering to safety policies and procedures. Ensuring correct construction procedures are adhered to in compliance with Austal USA standards and project specifications is crucial. The ability to work shifts or overtime as required, with flexibility, is necessary. Maintaining housekeeping, keeping the worksite free of rubbish, and keeping materials and equipment stowed in an orderly manner are also key responsibilities. The role requires minimizing waste of consumables and material and accountability for completion of daily work assignments, including work completion and quality sign-offs. The welder will assist Welders, Fitters, Apprentices, and Trades Assistants with daily tasks as directed, and may be assigned tasks outside their craft. Monitoring the working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations and reporting deficiencies to the supervisor is also part of the role.
