The general purpose of this position is to weld simple to complex components and/or structures while meeting all safety, quality and schedule requirements. The role involves working in compliance with all safety, quality, environmental and health requirements, welding a variety of configurations including single-pass and multi-pass fillets in all positions, and multi-pass full penetration joint details. The welder is expected to work with urgency, efficiency, and productive output, maintaining safe work practices and adhering to safety policies and procedures. They must ensure correct construction procedures are followed in compliance with Austal USA standards and project specifications. The position also requires maintaining housekeeping, keeping the worksite free of rubbish, and stowing materials and equipment orderly. The individual is accountable for completing daily work assignments, including necessary signatures for work completion and quality, and is capable of minimizing waste of consumables and material. They may also assist other welders, fitters, apprentices, and trades assistants, and monitor the working environment for compliance with regulations.
