About The Position

SYGMA Florida is seeking dedicated Delivery Drivers to join their team. This role involves safely and efficiently transporting products from the warehouse to various customer locations using a tractor-trailer. Drivers typically run 2 to 4 routes per week, are out no more than 36 hours (most less than 20 hours), and have the potential to earn an average of $85,000 to $95,000 per year, with top earners making up to $100,000. SYGMA emphasizes teamwork, internal talent development, and providing excellent customer service. The position offers paid training and a compensation structure that includes route pay plus incentives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED/equivalent degree, plus 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience preferred.
  • Completion of a tractor trailer driving school will be accepted instead of, or in addition to a high school diploma.
  • 1–2 years of Food & Beverage experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of initial and continued employment.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations; Hazmat guidelines; Safe lifting and delivery practices.
  • Skill in driving over long distances, over a variety of terrains and in varying weather conditions, communicating with customers, solving problems, and delivering product.
  • Ability to drive a tractor-trailer unit both in the day and at night in a variety of traffic and weather conditions and remain alert and aware of surroundings.
  • Ability to meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company.
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials and food and restaurant items that are frozen, dry and refrigerated.
  • Ability to operate a 3 axle tractor, 45' - 48' trailer, straight truck, on board computer, key pad and a 2 wheel hand cart.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision.
  • Ability to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport product from the warehouse to customer locations, ensuring timely delivery according to the assigned route.
  • Unload product from the trailer by hand or using a hand cart, down ramps, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions, and place it in designated customer storage areas according to customer specifications and company standards.
  • Pick up, load, and unload damaged goods and customer returns, and transport products back to the SYGMA warehouse.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including DOT electronic or manual logs, inspections, company vehicle maintenance reports, pre and post-trip reports, and ensure all invoices are accurate and turned in daily.
  • Report any damages and shortages promptly.
  • Ensure all food safety protocols are met, including maintaining proper temperatures in the delivery vehicle, inspecting product for visible damages prior to delivery, and delivering and storing product to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions in the tractor and trailer, and assist with maintaining sanitary conditions in the warehouse and yard.
  • Follow preferred work methods at all times and immediately advise the management team of any unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain and safely operate all assigned equipment, including hand cart, pallets, load bars, SLS unit, and personal protective equipment.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with customers by providing excellent and courteous service with clear communication.
  • Communicate with the management team regarding any deviations to the route, trailer or loading issues, or customer or product issues.
  • Safely transport product picked up via backhauls and line hauls, ensuring the picked-up product is correct and delivered on time according to established company standards.
  • Work the assigned schedule and outside of usual work hours as needed to meet customer needs, exhibiting regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
