About The Position

Dohrn Transfer is hiring a full-time Class A Driver at its Ankeny, Iowa terminal. The role involves driving a tractor-trailer between customer locations to pick up and deliver freight, as well as transporting freight between terminals. Drivers are home daily and work Monday through Friday on the day shift. Pay starts at $33.94 per hour and increases to $35.63 per hour after the first year. Eligible full-time drivers can earn a quarterly safety incentive of $250, up to $1,000 annually.

Drivers safely operate commercial vehicles, load and unload freight, secure freight as needed, inspect vehicles, and maintain required regulatory records. The job includes frequent freight handling and physical activity. Drivers must comply with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous-material transportation requirements.

The position requires at least one year of verifiable tractor-trailer experience, a valid commercial driver's license, and the required hazardous-material and tanker endorsements. Requirements

• Be at least 23 years old.
• Have at least one year of verifiable tractor-trailer experience.
• Pass a road test administered by a Dohrn Transfer Driver Trainer.
• Possess or obtain within the required time period, and maintain, hazardous-material and tanker endorsements on a valid driver's license issued by the driver's state of residence.
• Possess only one valid commercial driver's license issued by the driver's state of residence; provide information on licenses held during the previous 36 months and former-license information if recently transferred from another state.
• Have no DUI/OWI or reckless-driving citation or conviction within the previous five years.
• Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
• Pass a Department of Transportation physical examination and functional screen.
• Consent to a pre-employment drug screen and receive a negative result.
• Have negative controlled-substance and alcohol results from prior employers for the past three years, with no prior evidence of controlled-substance use.
• Have no refusal to submit to an alcohol or controlled-substance test within the past three years, including pre-employment testing.
• Consent to a 10-year work-history check, list and explain employment gaps of 30 days or more, and provide documentation if requested.
• Be able to read and write English and perform simple mathematical calculations.
• Meet the physical requirements, including lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds and pushing or pulling up to 60 pounds of horizontal force.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive a commercial vehicle to pick up and deliver general freight.
• Safely transport freight between terminals.
• Load and unload trailers, independently or with assistance from dockworkers, using mechanical freight-handling equipment where available and appropriate.
• Frequently lift, pull, push, and carry freight; secure freight with straps or other methods when required.
• Inspect vehicles for defects and safe operating conditions as required by law and company policy.
• Comply with federal requirements for transporting hazardous materials.
• Operate tractor-trailers in varying conditions and within applicable hours-of-service requirements.
• Maintain drivers’ logs and other records required by state and federal regulations.
• Perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
