About The Position

OmniSource is seeking a CDL-A Truck Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator to operate mobile equipment and transport materials in support of sourcing and dismantling, and to facilitate the movement and processing of scrap materials. Duties include on-site transportation. The role requires attention to detail, a commitment to safety and efficiency, and the ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions. The driver operates in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policies, maintains required records and shipping documentation, and represents the company professionally through responsible driving and customer service. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; hours may vary when needed.

Requirements

At least 2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience, or 1 year of tractor-trailer experience with a graduation certificate from an accredited tractor-trailer driving school.
Experience with hydraulic systems for end-dump and roll-off trailer operation.
Working knowledge of loading and unloading end-dump and roll-off equipment.
Ability to read, write, and interpret English sufficiently to communicate with law enforcement and company personnel and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Working knowledge of vehicle safety control systems.
Ability to perform simple math calculations and handle receipts, maintain logs, and read road maps and instructions.
Safety-minded at all times.
Must possess or obtain a forklift license.
Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to solve problems independently.
Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on equipment.
Ability and willingness to perform housekeeping responsibilities such as shoveling and sweeping and to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
High school diploma or GED.
Must have or be willing to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in the scrap metal or trash recycling industry.
Previous knowledge of scrap materials handling.
Working knowledge of Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

Hook and unhook trailers from the tractor.
Inspect the truck and trailers before, during, and after trips; perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document defects on a DVIR so repairs can be completed.
Check shipping paperwork for accuracy and ensure required shipping documents accompany shipments and are available for inspection.
Drive to and from destinations in compliance with federal and state regulations and company policies.
Maneuver vehicles safely in heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight loading and unloading areas.
Maintain records required by state and federal regulations and the company, including driver logs, fuel purchases, mileage, and paperwork related to truck operation and scrap movement.
Perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Report accidents involving the driver or company equipment and report highway safety hazards encountered on route.
Promptly report delays caused by breakdowns, weather, traffic, or other emergencies affecting pickup or delivery.
Represent the company and trucking industry professionally through responsible driving and customer service.
Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on equipment.
Perform housekeeping duties such as shoveling and sweeping.
Operate mobile equipment to load and unload material and support scrap movement and processing.
