About The Position

In business since 1919 and still growing, Arrow is a leader in bulk commodity hauling, reload operations, freight management, logistics, consulting, and technology with operations throughout Canada and the U.S. We are looking for a Class 1 Truck Drivers to join us and become part of our Arrow family in Drayton Valley. As an Arrow driver, you will be hauling wood fibre locally in b-trains. Wood fibre is mainly comprised of wood chips, but we also haul sawdust and hogfuel. You will travel on various highways in and around Drayton Valley and Entwistle.

Requirements

  • Valid Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening and provide two job references
  • Ability to drive a standard (manual) and automatic transmission
  • Ability to maintain trailer cleanliness, including rinsing out trailer when at destination
  • Ability to take direction, work independently with minimal supervision, and cross‑train across facility functions
  • Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written, for safe work execution, documentation, and coordination with dispatch and site personnel
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs overhead, 75 lbs to shoulder height, moving up to 100 lbs, and sitting for extended periods
  • Basic understanding of vehicle and trailer maintenance
  • Strong safety, quality, and organizational mindset, including task prioritization and meeting timelines
  • Professional, mature demeanor under stress; ethical, accountable, dependable, and integrity‑driven
  • Positive, flexible team player with strong interpersonal skills and a solid work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations
  • Perform pre and post and en route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness and regulatory compliance
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, load securement, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions
  • Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics
  • Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned
  • May operate loading equipment as per role requirements
  • Check mobile equipment (i.e. frontend loaders) to ensure that mechanical and safety equipment is in good working order
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to the relevant supervisor
  • Report all safety hazards or conditions encountered at load, unload, yard and shop sites
  • Record, Maintain and Check all relevant paperwork (i.e. bill of lading,) and documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
  • Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers
  • Complete electronic and/or manual logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with the public, customers, and co-workers
  • Assist in loading and unloading of trucks
  • Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure
  • Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements. Tarping loads may be a requirement
  • Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up
  • Provide feedback to supervisor/dispatch regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems
  • Ensure that all customers, co-workers and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect
  • Train others when required
