About The Position

The Claims Technician provides operational and administrative support to the claims team. This includes obtaining documents necessary to close a file, ensuring deductibles or SIRs are satisfied, accurately documenting claim files, keeping tasks/diaries on every file, drafting correspondence, supporting multiple teams, submitting invoices for payment, closing files in a timely manner, and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in the insurance industry or another industry with transferrable skills
  • Basic knowledge of insurance claims handling practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • B.A./B.S degree from an accredited College or University preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Other prior insurance experience in another department or function, such as operations or underwriting
  • Experience working at a law firm or as a paralegal
  • Commitment to professional development and learning
  • Experience “shadowing” other co-workers in a different business unit to improve awareness of Hiscox’s broader business

Responsibilities

  • Obtains documents necessary to close a file (release, dismissal, final invoices and ensure invoices are paid before file closing)
  • Ensures the deductible or SIR is satisfied and notated before closing a file
  • Accurately documents claim files with all relevant claim documentation, correspondence and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities
  • Keeps a task/diary on every file and follows up per company policies
  • Drafts correspondence to customers and defense counsel to identify yourself as the Closer on the file
  • Supports multiple teams in the Claims organization
  • Timely submits invoices for payment and ensure the file is documented
  • Timely closes files
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external partners, insureds and colleagues
