About The Position

This is an extremely responsible professional position involving the application of claims law, knowledge of medical procedures and terminology, claims investigation and evaluation, current jurisprudence, claims and medical management, and particularly the medical malpractice statute, LA R.S. 40:1299.41, et seq. Working under the guidance of legislative mandate, this section provides efficient and economic claims handling of medical malpractice cases as an excess carrier. The cases ultimately adjusted within this section are complicated and have damages of the highest value, over $100.000.00, and are all litigated. The State Risk Adjuster 5 is a supervisory role that oversees a team of State Risk Adjusters responsible for resolving claims in a manner that meets the needs and interests of Louisiana healthcare providers and those injured as a result of medical malpractice incidents. The role will actively engage with the claims leadership team; provide technical guidance to risk adjusters; provide direction on claim resolution; evaluate claims for authority, reserve accuracy, and payment; and manage employee and team performance. Requirements

  • Six years of experience in insurance claims adjusting, examining, or investigation; accident investigation, legal research, project management, contract management, or construction management; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in insurance claims adjusting, examining, or investigation; accident investigation, legal research, project management, contract management, or construction management; OR A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in insurance claims adjusting, examining, or investigation; accident investigation, legal research, project management, contract management, or construction management; OR An advanced degree in risk management or insurance, business or public administration, safety or legal studies, construction management, or a health services field plus two years of experience in insurance claims adjusting, examining, or investigation; accident investigation, legal research, project management, contract management, or construction management.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Supervision is exercised over journeyman-level to professional-level adjusters.
  • Provide technical guidance to risk adjusters.
