About The Position

As a Claims Service Examiner, you will be responsible for handling inbound claims calls, including but not limited to, cargo, work injury, accidents, and safety. Your role will involve gathering and documenting pertinent information to initiate and create claims. You will collaborate with internal and external contacts to address various aspects of claims, adhering to appropriate claims handling procedures to minimize costs and liability exposure. Incumbents will have the authority to assign outside vendors for services up to $2,500.

Requirements

  • 1+ years' experience in customer service and/or insurance/claims background required.
  • Must be able to multi-task and handle high call volumes.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Answer department inbound claims calls, including cargo, work injury, accidents, and safety.
  • Gather and document available pertinent information to initiate/create a claim.
  • Work with relevant internal and external contacts to respond to various aspects of the claim while adhering to appropriate claims handling procedures to assist in minimizing cost and exposure of claims liability.
  • Respond to incoming phone calls/emails from internal departments, companies, insured's, agents, drivers, owner-operators, attorney's, and executive leadership.
  • Determine the proper company and coverage on all claims.
  • Review and handle highly complex incoming claims calls and escalated claims issues.
  • Follow up to ensure claims processes are appropriately carried out by various parties.
  • Initiate claims and investigations by assessing each situation independently and taking action, i.e., assigning outside vendors if needed.
  • Make effective and appropriate economic decisions by gathering sufficient data, documenting clearly, making calls, and asking appropriate questions when/where necessary.
  • Act as fiduciary agent of the company authorizing various insurance, towing, and salvage expenses within designated authority.
  • Instruct, coordinate, and monitor post-accident drug and alcohol tests to be completed as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Represent Swift and its agents as the initial contact from various third-party vendors and claimants exhibiting Best in Class customer service.
  • Act as liaison for internal communications between designated department personnel and leadership representatives, as well as field investigators, attorneys, police agencies, and other assigned vendors in serious accidents, injury claims, cargo losses, and company equipment breakdown claims.
  • Research and identify, when possible, alleged instances when Swift equipment is reportedly involved in a crash with limited identification available.
  • Learn key functions and terms of multi-line insurance coverages and have the ability to apply general knowledge of state regulations within each line of coverage.
  • Act as fiduciary agent of the company authorizing various insurance, towing, and salvage expenses within designated authority per occurrence.
  • Correspond with policyholders, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, etc., to gather information to support decisions.
  • Proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives.
