The Claims Manager will direct and manage the implementation, development, and continuous improvement of company-wide Workers Compensation, additional casualty lines of insurance, leave administration, and return-to-work programs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, risk management, industrial relations, Human Resources or other related field.
  • Eight plus years related experience working with applicable laws, policies and statues governing GL, Auto, and Workers Compensation programs.
  • Experience in tough jurisdictions like CA, LA, and FL.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present to multiple levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional business units and vendors to support the EHS/risk management program.
  • Strong project and program management skills.
  • Vendor management skills.
  • Critical thinking and ability to make good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
  • Ability to be a team player and be cooperative.
  • Strong working knowledge and ability to utilize various applications such as Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the GL, Auto, and Workers Compensation (WC) Program, including reserving practices, adherence to special handling instructions, and third-party vendor management by the Third Party Administrator (TPA).
  • Manage the daily and monthly financial process, approving all expenditures by the TPA and related program elements, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assess, improve, and program manage work comp programs in monopolistic states.
  • Create reports and implement programs and audits to highlight Casualty program compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct action-oriented quarterly claim reviews between TPA, Risk Management leadership, and broker.
  • Evaluate the performance of all parties involved in claims and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop goals and objectives to enhance future claim reviews.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of claims from intake to resolution, engaging appropriate internal and external parties.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA reporting requirements, including recording, reporting, record keeping, logs, and filing.
  • Develop and implement audit procedures to ensure TPAs adhere to statutory performance measures.
  • Identify statutory noncompliance and develop/implement performance improvement plans.
  • Oversee the triage hotline for immediate medical attention to injured employees.
  • Oversee the national line of clinics for injury management.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for the light duty/RTW program, ensuring compliance with applicable statutes, policies, and rules.
  • Develop and implement policies to maximize coordination and utilization of Marsden’s workforce.
  • Create and present training programs on compliance and reducing unscheduled absences.
  • Provide testimony and support to Human Resources, Legal, outside counsel, and TPA for employment and compliance issues.
  • Develop and implement training initiatives for employees, management, and external vendors.
  • Perform complex analyses of internal costs, review and evaluate incurred costs, schedules, and financial/statistical information.
  • Work with external actuarial partners to monitor loss runs and appropriate accruals.
  • Provide concise reports, supporting analytics, and recommendations to management.
