About The Position

The Claims Director, Property & Casualty is a senior level leader responsible for the execution and delivery of the US Claims strategy by developing, managing, and motivating engaged AVPs/Team Mangers. This person combines excellent technical claims handling, people management, and leadership skills. Claims Directors are managers of managers who provide overall leadership across our general liability teams.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of claims management experience or equivalent, including significant people management and leadership experience
  • 7+ years insurance carrier claims handling experience, preferably with commercial general liability lines
  • The ability to translate strategic thinking into tangible plans and delivery to effectively meet business objectives
  • Strong operational skills, including both business process and systems, combined with a visible passion for the customer
  • A strong track record of leveraging technology to innovate and improve business performance and efficiency
  • Industry acumen and proven strong judgement to make sound claims and broader business decisions
  • High learning agility and intellectual curiosity combined with the entrepreneurial spirit to work in a complex and global environment
  • A proven track record of collaborating and managing stakeholders across all levels, including senior management

Responsibilities

  • Leads, motivates and develops Team AVPs overseeing and delivering on customer service and results
  • Responsible for delivery of Key Performance Indicators and adherence to Hiscox USA Best Practices
  • Leads and executes on identified strategic business initiatives to deliver cost effective and innovative claims results, claims litigation strategy and a consistent, high value customer experience
  • Supports claim employee engagement goals, team performance and development
  • Drives litigation management behaviors and identifies trends and training opportunities to address same
  • Oversees and drives Best Practice compliance with the reserving process for the CGL LOB, including overseeing exposure, and ensuring timeliness and adequacy of incurred reserves
  • Tracks claims trends and reserving, with respect to timeliness and sufficiency
  • Effectively manages performance of AVPs
  • Plays an active role in recruitment and onboarding
  • Leads and/or participates in Claims Projects as needed
  • Works directly with key stakeholders, such as UW and Claim Operations, to deliver on business needs, goals and important operational objectives
