About The Position

Encova Insurance has an immediate opening for a Claims Business Analyst for our Columbus, Ohio corporate location. In this role, you will work a hybrid schedule and as such, the expectation is that you reside within a reasonable commute to our office. We can hire at multiple seniority levels depending on candidate qualifications and the posted compensation range is inclusive of all levels. The IT Business Analyst primary responsibility is to formulate and define requirements based on user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems. They also serve as key partners to the IT Quality Assurance team to ensure requirements are converted to effective test plans, and to System Analyst, Architects, Development Teams and Project Managers for decisions on the design of technology solutions to meet the business requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with Guidewire ClaimCenter (for Claims Business Analyst II).
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with Guidewire ClaimCenter (for Claims Business Analyst III).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business or other related field or equivalent three years of information technology or insurance experience.
  • One year of experience as a Business Analyst, including but not limited to: Requirements development, Test Case development, SDLC monitoring.
  • Ability to elicit, decipher and document technology needs to overcome problems faced by our business.
  • Ability to look at needs of stakeholders from different perspectives and suggest ways to communicate needs in a way that can be understood by IT.
  • Understands the Products offered by Encova and how Encova IT SDLC can impact our Corporate initiatives.
  • Ability to moderate group discussions and enable participants to articulate their thoughts and ideas.
  • Ability to apply the proper process based on audience to attain the expected outcomes.
  • Ability to express ideas, information or other content in a clear and professional manner.
  • Ability to actively listen to ensure ideas generated by stakeholders are clearly understood.
  • Ability to lead demos and communicate enhancements to the appropriate business areas.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between the business groups and IT, working closely with business partners to enable business success through IT solutions.
  • Formulate and define requirements based on user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems.
  • Serve as key partners to the IT Quality Assurance team to ensure requirements are converted to effective test plans.
  • Partner with System Analyst, Architects, Development Teams and Project Managers for decisions on the design of technology solutions to meet the business requirements.
  • Define and document business problems with business representatives.
  • Analyze problems and make recommendations on possible solution alternatives.
  • Create functional specifications to translate business requirements into application or process enhancements.
  • Facilitate the understanding, clarification, and implementation of business requirements and work with key partners in IT to turn those into functional system design.
  • Serve as Owner or Subject Matter Expert (SME) for at least one discipline within an Encova Product (i.e. – Workers’ Compensation Claims, Personal Lines Policy, Commercial Lines Claims, etc.).
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the system development life cycle and associated tools used by Encova throughout the SDLC process.
  • Validate incidents against business requirement documentation to verify whether an incident is a production defect or an enhancement.
  • Review application incidents to determine root cause.
  • Propose, document and implement acceptable workarounds for incidents with little help from the development team.
  • Collaborate with business partners for approval on acceptable workarounds.
  • Collaborate with QA analysts on the development of appropriate test plans and test cases based on the functionality written in business requirement documentation.
  • Execute test case scenarios and document test results.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the project management methodology and associated tools used by Encova throughout the Demand Management process.
  • Complete all project tasks in accordance with the timeline outlined within each assigned project.
  • Assist Project/Program Managers on running small Projects that are part of a Program, the scope of each project should be no more than 2 months of development work while working with no more than 1 Agile Development Team.
  • Apply current division and department standards.
  • Be available for on-call production problem resolution.
  • Maintain and continue development of information technology concepts and fundamentals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
