About The Position

Smith Brothers Insurance is seeking an experienced claims professional to join our Large Commercial Lines team as a Claims Advocate. This role is responsible for advocating on behalf of clients throughout the full claims lifecycle, with a strong focus on Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Property, Automobile, and other commercial lines claims. The Claims Advocate serves as a trusted partner to clients, carriers, and internal teams, providing guidance, coordination, and proactive communication to ensure timely resolution and a positive client experience. This position operates in a collaborative environment and is grounded in a commitment to service excellence, accountability, and results.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience handling Workers’ Compensation claims, preferably in a mid-market commercial lines insurance agency environment or carrier commercial environment.
  • Connecticut, New York, and/or New Jersey Casualty Adjuster’s License (or ability to obtain/maintain as required).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively advocate for clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the claims resolution process for Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Property, and Automobile claims.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-jurisdictional claims environment.
  • Ability to analyze issues, make sound decisions, and develop practical solutions independently.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, with a commitment to accountability, knowledge sharing, and service excellence.
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance claims, carrier practices, and regulatory requirements, with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, agency systems (Applied EPIC preferred), carrier platforms, and AI tools.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable team player with a positive mindset, strong work ethic, and resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary claims advocate for Commercial Lines clients, guiding claims from intake through resolution and ensuring a positive client experience.
  • Build trusted client relationships through proactive communication, education, claims guidance, and strategic advocacy.
  • Coordinate and lead claim reviews with clients and carriers across Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Property, and Automobile lines.
  • Analyze Workers' Compensation claims, including reserve reviews, EMR/Mod projections, and exposure mitigation strategies with carrier partners.
  • Partner with Risk Advisors and Account Managers to address coverage questions, policy interpretation, and complex claim challenges.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to resolve claim delays, improve adjuster responsiveness, and drive timely claim outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a proactive, client-focused approach by delivering responsive service, managing expectations, and meeting established timelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and activity records in agency systems.
  • Ensure compliance with agency process.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training to strengthen skills, knowledge, and effectiveness.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, agency systems, and AI tools to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Work effectively with all team members, provide backup support, and contribute to team collaboration.
