About The Position

This role focuses on supporting policyholders by leveraging technology and human expertise. The Auto Injury segment handles bodily injury, uninsured/underinsured claims, and property damage claims involving injuries. Claims are tiered based on complexity and severity, ranging from non-attorney represented bodily injuries to litigation claims. This is a field role involving in-person assignments such as securing documentation, attending legal appearances, and then transitioning to a claim handler for 3rd party liability claims, which includes evaluating, negotiating, and settling claims. The position empowers claim handlers to take ownership of the customer experience, demonstrate learning agility, apply knowledge, and lead with a customer-centric approach. Claims employees may encounter difficult and emotional investigations, including traumatic injury and loss of life, and may need to interact with parties expressing strong emotions. Handling may involve lawsuits, demands, and working with attorneys.

Requirements

  • Prior claim handling experience with proven ability to assess damages, estimate repair costs, and negotiate settlements
  • Proficiency in using Claims Management software and other relevant tools
  • Detail-oriented with strong written communication skills
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to handle difficult conversations with a customer-minded focus
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to multi-task across technical platforms

  • Physical agility to allow for: frequent lifting, carrying and climbing a ladder; ability to navigate roofs at various heights for inspection of both residential and commercial structures; ability to crawl in tight spaces
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Employees must successfully complete all required training, including applicable proficiency and licensing exam(s), Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks, and background checks required of various state(s).
  • Candidates may be asked to travel and work outside of their assigned territory as business needs dictates.

  • Claim handling experience including: Bodily injury and property damage liability claims, as well as uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage claims
  • Verification of coverage, legal liability, and extent of damage to persons and property by using knowledge of policies, procedures, laws, statutes, and insurance regulations
  • Litigation experience – In person court appearances (including Trials, Settlement Conferences, Mediations)

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analyzing both residential and commercial property injury claims to determine coverage, liability, and damages with exposures up to $500,000
  • Conducting thorough investigations by gathering relevant information, interviewing involved parties, and reviewing supporting documentation
  • Evaluating medical records, police reports, and other related documents to assess the extent of injuries and liability
  • Evaluate coverage and policy terms to determine the validity of claims and ensure compliance with local regulations
  • Negotiating settlements with claimants, ensuring fair compensation is provided within policy limits considering policy provisions, industry standards, and company guidelines
  • Documenting all claim activities, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports as required
  • Collaborate with external policyholders, insurance agents, and other involved parties to gather information and resolve claims efficiently
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including legal, medical, and risk assessment, to ensure proper claim handling
  • Handling may include lawsuits and/or demands as well as working with Attorneys
