About The Position

The City of Durham's internationally accredited Durham Police Department is seeking a dedicated Traffic Investigator to respond to and investigate traffic crashes. This role involves gathering and analyzing data to determine incident circumstances, providing assistance to those involved, and compiling detailed reports based on findings. The investigator will apply knowledge of local and state traffic laws and perform other duties such as traffic direction and control, assisting disabled vehicles, and arranging for the removal of abandoned vehicles that obstruct roadways. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
  • Two years of related experience including recordkeeping, public contact, interpretation of rules and regulations and investigation, preferably for a law enforcement agency.
  • Valid North Carolina class C driver's license, or, if license is from another state, willing able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.

  • May testify as a witness in court.
  • Performs various administrative support duties.
