About The Position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking an Entry-Level Civil/ Waterfront Engineer for its Amesbury, Massachusetts office. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background, a firm grasp of civil engineering principles, and a keen interest in diverse and challenging projects, both in the office and in the field. While assignments will primarily focus on coastal projects, they will also encompass a range of infrastructure, real estate/building development, and energy initiatives. Previous work experience is advantageous but not mandatory. A strong work ethic and excellent communication skills are highly valued. In between field assignments, you will operate within a professional office setting, responsible for detailed field documentation, data evaluation, engineering analysis, technical report preparation, and the implementation of new technologies.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering (MS Degree is a plus).
  • 1+ years of professional work experience is preferred.
  • Effective communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Ability to work locally and regionally.
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and have a consistent means of transportation to/from project sites.
  • EIT certificate or ability to obtain within a year.
  • Desire to obtain Professional Engineer registration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with numerical modeling, AutoCad and GIS preferred.
  • Familiarity with coastal processes and small boat operation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Executing subsurface exploration and in-situ testing programs to evaluate soil and bedrock conditions
  • Performing field construction observation during installation of soft (nature-based) and hard shoreline protection/stabilization measures and other coastal projects, shallow and deep foundation installation and testing, environmental sampling and monitoring, and other diverse projects.
  • Assisting with topographic and bathymetric survey as well as condition assessment of waterfront structures.
  • Evaluating field data and performing engineering analyses/calculations.
  • Writing field summary reports, drafts of field and engineering reports, technical specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates.
  • Assisting with submittal reviews and requests for information during construction.
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.
