About The Position

Responsible for Civil and Structural Engineering related tasks as assigned, with minimal to moderate guidance, in support of Electrical Substation design. Perform structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation designs.  Generate structural steel and reinforced concrete details. Develop structural analysis models and design of steel structures and equipment support foundations. Also utilize in-house developed design tools to assist in analysis, post-processing and creating construction drawing information. Assist in the preparation of calculation reports and packages, steel and rebar fabrication shop drawing review, and construction submittal review. Involved in executing structural steel and concrete analysis, design, and detailing, for transmission and distribution electrical substations with voltage classes up to and including 345kV. Review and produce civil/structural design drawings including Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan and Details, Foundation Plan and Details, and Oil Containment Plan and Details. Work towards developing a self-directed autonomous level of responsibility while under the direction and supervision of a registered Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer licensure or EIT certification with plans to obtain PE license within 2 years.
  • 2-6+ years of civil/structural substation design engineering experience, preferably at an engineering consulting firm (can be evaluated at higher level based on experience)
  • Experience with Excel, Word, Mathcad, RISA3D, MFAD, L-Pile, EnerCALC, and AutoCAD are preferred.
  • Familiarity with standard building codes including IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, and AWS (Experience with ASCE 113, NESC, or IEEE standards a plus).
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% when needed within the continental US.
