About The Position

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP (E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in a full spectrum of engineering services including, project engineering and design, federal base operations and infrastructure support services, gas pipeline construction and inspection services, environmental consulting and remediation, and information technology services. The Civil/Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing and analyzing structural and civil engineering systems, preparing detailed engineering drawings, and coordinating with other team members to ensure project success. The candidate will be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of six years of civil and structural engineering experience.
  • California Professional Engineer license is required.
  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis reinforced concrete design, structural steel design, foundation design, and seismic design.
  • Experience with civil site design, including grading, drainage, excavation, paving, erosion control, and site restoration.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including the California Building Code, International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and applicable client and utility standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports, survey data, piping drawings, equipment drawings, vendor information, and existing construction documents.
  • Ability to conduct field investigations, assess existing conditions, and translate field information into practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical accuracy, constructability, and project requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel periodically to project sites and client facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Structural Engineer license is a plus but not required.
  • Experience supporting utility, pipeline, energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience with Civil 3D and Revit is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings, submittals, requests for information, and construction-related design changes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil and structural engineering analysis and design for utility, pipeline, industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, design packages, and construction documents in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Design structural systems and components using reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and wood.
  • Design foundations and support structures for buildings, equipment, control panels, communication poles, pipe supports, pipe racks, platforms, stairs, underground vaults, retaining walls, and other utility infrastructure.
  • Perform structural analysis for gravity, wind, seismic, equipment, piping, operational, thermal, construction, and other applicable loading conditions.
  • Evaluate existing structures and develop modifications, repairs, or strengthening designs to support new equipment, piping, electrical systems, instrumentation, and facility improvements.
  • Perform civil site design, including grading, drainage, erosion control, excavation, trenching, paving, site access, and restoration plans.
  • Develop temporary and permanent shoring, excavation support, trench support, retaining wall, and slope stabilization designs.
  • Perform foundation design using geotechnical recommendations, including bearing capacity, settlement, lateral resistance, uplift, and seismic design criteria.
  • Review geotechnical reports and coordinate with geotechnical engineers regarding soil conditions, foundation recommendations, groundwater, seismic hazards, and construction considerations.
  • Prepare site plans, grading plans, drainage plans, demolition plans, foundation plans, structural details, sections, and construction notes.
  • Perform calculations for pipe support reactions, anchor loads, thrust forces, equipment loads, blowdown forces, and other loads associated with pipeline and utility facilities.
  • Coordinate civil and structural designs with pipeline, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, architectural, geotechnical, construction, and project management teams.
  • Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and structural analysis software to develop engineering drawings, models, calculations, and design details.
  • Conduct field investigations, site walks, and structural condition assessments to document existing conditions, verify dimensions, identify constraints, and collect information needed for design.
  • Evaluate existing concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures for deterioration, damage, capacity, and suitability for continued use or modification.
  • Develop scopes of work, design criteria, project estimates, schedules, material quantities, and technical proposal content.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment data, shop drawings, material submittents, requests for information, change requests, and contractor proposals.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to field questions, reviewing proposed modifications, resolving design conflicts, and performing site observations.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, agencies, utility representatives, and other project stakeholders to define project requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Support permitting and agency coordination by preparing calculations, drawings, and technical documentation for jurisdictional review.
  • Perform quality-control reviews of calculations, drawings, specifications, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Identify design risks, constructability concerns, utility conflicts, and potential cost or schedule impacts and communicate them to the project team.
  • Manage assigned engineering tasks, project budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and drafting personnel.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable civil and structural codes, standards, utility requirements, and industry practices.
