About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing complex engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This role provides civil/structural engineering support for substation capital projects, performing mathematical calculations for sizing and design of oil containment systems, runoff/drainage calculations for stormwater conveyance/retention systems, and calculations for analysis and design of substation structures, foundations, and rigid-bus, as well as sag-tension calculations for strain bus design. Proficiency in structural analysis software is preferred. The role also involves providing engineering for substation capital projects, completing grounding, lightning shielding, and lighting studies, preparing station configuration and layouts, working with project planners to develop substation solutions, and developing station project functional and detail scoping documents with stakeholders. Additionally, the position assists project managers with engineering activities and deliverables within Primavera P6 schedules, oversees work by internal designers or consulting firms, and provides support to construction and field service personnel.

Requirements

  • Engineer/ Engineering Technologist Associate SG6: Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
  • Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this degree requirement, if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Engineer/ Engineering Technologist SG7: Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET along with two or more years of related engineering experience.
  • Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
  • Engineering Technologist SG7: 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET.
  • Engineer/Engineering Technologist Senior SG8: 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
  • Or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
  • Engineering Technologist Senior SG8: 4 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET.
  • Civil engineering degrees preferred for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

  • A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree: however, engineering degrees will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide civil/structural engineering support for substation capital projects
  • Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work, including sizing and design of oil containment systems, runoff/drainage calculations, and analysis/design of substation structures, foundations, rigid-bus, and strain bus.
  • Proficiency in the use of structural analysis software preferred (i.e. STAAD.Pro)
  • Provide engineering for substation capital projects
  • Complete grounding, lightning shielding, and lighting studies
  • Prepare station configuration and layouts
  • Work with project planners to develop substation solutions
  • Develop station project functional and detail scoping documents working with all project stakeholders
  • Assist project managers with the development and maintenance of station engineering activities and deliverables within Primavera P6 project schedules
  • Oversee work performed by internal designers or consulting engineering firms on the design of select projects
  • Provide support to construction and professional field service personnel to resolve issues and concerns during the construction phase of projects
  • Collaborate with various departments during the course of the project
