About The Position

Frontier-Kemper, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking a Civil/Structural Design Engineer to join our office in Evansville, IN. At Frontier-Kemper, we specialize in heavy civil construction and underground mine development, known for our expertise in deep shafts and tunnels. Our FKC-Lake Shore division provides design/build/install services for innovative Hoisting and Vertical Conveyance Systems. Our goal is to be the industry’s best source and value for turn-key construction, engineering, and design-build services. We work with notable public and private sector clients including major transportation authorities, development commissions, public works authorities, federal agencies, and mining clients. As a Civil/Structural Design Engineer, you will be an integral member of the Engineering Division, working on mining, heavy civil construction, and hoisting equipment projects. Your design work will encompass construction plan preparation, hoisting equipment design and manufacture, mining shaft and slope design, and construction support. The Civil Engineering team operates as an in-house multi-disciplinary technical unit providing design, analysis, and consulting services. You will interact with peers, consultants, vendors, and clients.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• A minimum of 3 - 10 years of work experience, preferably in a field related to underground construction and/or mining.
• A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or able to register as a licensed P.E. within 2 years.
• Experience in design of reinforced concrete structures and steel structures.
• Proficient in preparation of structural calculations utilizing structural analysis software and hand calculations.
• Demonstrated logical problem-solving skills, including conceptual and analytical skills.
• Advanced computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software.

Nice To Haves

• Geotechnical engineering and/or support of excavation (SOE) design experience is desirable.
• Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor software is desired.
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis software would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Design civil/structural systems, structures and components.
• Assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures and components.
• Provide technical support to the Civil, Mining and FKC – Lake Shore Divisions.
• Assist with project planning and technical quotes for systems, structures and components.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards related to civil/structural systems, structures and components.
• Assist in responding to site-based requests for information, including analysis and recommendations.
• Prepare and present project documents including calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
• Travel to site, as needed.
