As a Civil Roadway Design Intern at KPFF, you will work alongside experienced engineers and technical staff on transportation infrastructure projects. You will gain hands-on experience with roadway design, plan development, engineering calculations, and construction support while learning how design decisions respond to agency standards, site conditions, constructability, and the needs of the traveling public. Throughout the internship, you will: Assist with roadway design tasks involving horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and related civil improvements. Help prepare plans, profiles, cross sections, details, quantity calculations, and cost estimates under the guidance of experienced engineers. Support development and organization of design files and technical deliverables using civil design and computer-aided drafting software. Learn to apply agency design criteria, standards, and project requirements to real-world transportation projects. Coordinate with drainage, utility, structures, traffic, survey, environmental, and other project disciplines. Contribute to team discussions, quality-control reviews, and collaborative problem-solving. Participate in our Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.
